dell PE2950 server (2*4 core CPU, 16G memory, 6*300G hard disk) for installing loadrunner.
Install the windows 2003 server operating system on these machines first.

1 standard dell PE2950, win 2003 server, no problem. But I this several configuration is a little bit higher, the installation process has some problems, now record, in order to meet the convenience of similar problems friends.

Such a high configuration of the server, no installation precedent, can only fumble.

1. Preparation

1. The two-hole USB drive is guaranteed to have enough voltage for the luxury dell (if the server does not have an optical drive)

2. The specific boot CD given by Dell must be provided by the after-sales service of dell, and it is useless to download it on the Internet

3. You can ask SA to help with RAID strategy in advance

2. The guide

Since the machine does not have a pre-installed boot, we need to use the CD to boot ourselves.

Leading is the most troublesome process. You need to get a special boot disc from dell. You can't download it from the Internet (even vomiting blood doesn't work). Boot - > Press F11 to enter boot- > Select start - from DVD > Wait for boot drive.

After the graphical interface comes out, select the language version - > Choose to install the operating system.

Enter the server Settings and follow the prompts one by one. In the process, user name, ProductID, computer name, DNS, gateway and other information should be filled in. You also need to configure RAID, physical disks, and so on.

Remember to check the box to automatically pop up the boot disk.

Then you go to the actual operating system installation phase. When you automatically boot to 1, a boot disk will pop up and prompt you to insert the win 2003 server installation disc. Insert and automatically copy the contents of CD.

Here is also 10 points depressing, obviously your CD is not a problem, but the machine is constantly reminding the installation disk inserted into the problem. How to do? Exit to reinsert. If two or three repetitions still indicate a problem with the installation disk, you should suspect the USB light

There is something wrong with the drive (the drive is broken, or the 2950 does not recognize your USB drive well, the voltage is low, etc.). Get a better CD drive... NND, if this happens to you, you can't...

3. Win2003 server installation

Restart the server and follow tip 1 step by step to ensure that win2003 server remains in the drive. It will keep rebooting, no matter it, as long as it can be installed finally successful!

Note: even if the boot is successful, an error may pop up during installation. Also can admit bad luck, reboot, really have no way. The process will take about an hour...

4. Configuration
You need to set up passwords, configure remote connections, partition, set up updates, and so on.

Finally, it is important to note that the boot disk under 2950 should be either version 5.0 or version 6.0, which is too high to support the boot installation of windows server 2003.
I've come across this before, remember.
