Several common solutions to server restart failure

1. When system startup displays the list of operating systems, press F8 to display the advanced startup option;

Es4en.Safe mode: only basic services and drivers are loaded.

Used to resolve a situation where the system fails to boot properly after installing additional hardware drivers or software. Select Safe mode, and if you can access the operating system, uninstall additional drivers or software.

Es15en.Last known good: starts the last successful configuration.

Used to resolve a situation where the system's drivers and services are misconfigured and the system cannot boot. Selecting Last known good reverts to the configuration of the last normal login.

c.VGA Mode: use standard VGA mode to boot the computer in 16-color 640x480 resolution.

Used to resolve display configuration errors, such as a high resolution refresh rate setting that results in a splash or black screen.

Es39en.Directory Service Restore Mode: directory service recovery mode.

If this server is Domain Controller, and Directory Service directory service is not working properly, select this mode, after entering, you can run ntdsutil.exe to maintain the directory service.

2. Recovery Console: recovery console.

If you cannot start from advanced boot options such as safe mode, you can use Recovery Console.

Access to Recoveronsole:

a. Boot from Win2003 CD or 4 installation floppy disks.

b. Select R repair during installation.

c. Follow the prompts and select C to enter Recovery Console.

After entering Recovery Console, you can repair the system with the following common commands:

a.fixboot: fix boot sector

b.fixmbr: fix master boot record

Es105en.copy: from floppy disk, CD copy file to hard disk (access to NTFS partition)

3.Emergency Repaire: emergency repair.

Used to repair system file damage lost, registry damage, boot environment damage and so on.

Methods:

A. Make Emergency Repaire Disk(emergency repair disk) :
when the system is normal
a. Click start - procedures - attachments - system tools - backup

b. In the welcome TAB, select Emergency Repaire Disk(emergency repair disk)

B. Use an emergency repair disk:

a. Start
with Win2003 CD or four installation floppy disks
b. During installation, select R to repair

c. Follow the instructions and select R to use the emergency repair disk.

d. Then select the repair type

Es165en.fast repair(quick fix) : can repair registry, system files, boot sector, boot environment.

Es171en.manual repaire(manual repair) : the repair option can be selected manually, but the registry cannot be repaired.

e. After the repair is complete, the system restarts

Note: the files in the winnt\repair directory are needed in the emergency repair process. Do not delete or modify the files in this directory after making the emergency repair disk.

4. Use Boot Disk.

Used to solve boot sector damage, C: root directory boot file loss caused by bad boot.

Methods:

Format a floppy disk on any computer.

Copy the following files from the win2003 c root directory to this floppy disk: ntldr, ntdetect.com, boot.ini (hidden file)

c. Modify boot.ini file. If the Win2003 is installed on the same partition as the win2003 of the failed machine, no modification is required.
